THE BELIEF IN GOD, RELIGION AND SCIENCE

THE BELIEF IN GOD, RELIGION AND SCIENCE
Believe in God has been an object of debate especially between evolutionists and religious adherents. To understand this one need to reflect a bit on the genesis of the argument. Modern historiography describes the origin of our belief in the very existence of God/gods as evolutionary i.e. religion gave birth to philosophy which in turn gave birth to science. It is therefore claimed that Tue scientific age the peak of human evolution and thus there could be no further evolution. This assumption is based on the following claims about the three concepts -religion, philosophy, and science.
-Religion originated out of fear of unknown, ignorance of the environment and the works of nature. Early man was claimed to have been astounded by the sight and work if nature which he had no logical or scientific explanation for. This made man to believe in the existence of supreme beings and there worshipped them in different forms. Different human group started to deify whatever appeals to them. Hence the claim that religion evolved from plurality I.e. polytheism. This is believed to later evolve into world monotheistic religions i.e. from the belief in gods/goddesses to the belief in God. Consider the following statements:
-Philosophers explained existence in terms of elements I.e. primary elements from Monists through Dualists to pluralists. Thus, they rule out the existence of God/gods. Only Muslim and Christian philosophers explained existence in the existence of God (the creator) and the creatures. This is because the challenges of Greek mythology gave birth to philosophy. Thus, Greek philosophers ruled out the existence of God/gods. Philosophy therefore relied on logical reasoning as opposed to religion which relied on revelation/tradition seen by philosophers as myth and superstition.
-Science is based on knowledge through observation and experimentation. Thus, science is seen as the world of facts which is only held as tentative. However the challenges facing the scientific community in Europe led to the inclusion of metaphysical aspects of philosophy in science. This was the only escape from the wrath of the church which instituted the Inquisition court pronouncing death sentences to scientists all over Europe. Some of those killed are Galileo, Copernicus etc. Charles Darwin published his article 'The origin of species' in 1859 and since then the attempt to establish evolution as a fact in the world of man started. According to Wahidudeen Khan (2001: 11-12) Julian Huxley sums up the view of the Western scholars saying: 'Newton showed that God did not control the movement of the planets. Laplace in a famous aphorism affirmed that astronomy had no need of the god hypothesis. Darwin and Pasteur between them did the same for biology; and in our own century the rise of scientific psychology and extension of historical knowledge have removed gods to a position where they are no longer of value in interpreting human behaviour and cannot be supposed to control human history PR interfere with human affairs'.
-As strong as the argument for Darwinism and the non existence of God seem. It is note-worthy that there also strong criticism within and outside the scientific communities. Also, renounced scientists globally have come to affirm the scientific bases of religion and the existence of God. I will attempt to present a few of such below:
+Hugh Ross an American astrophysicist stated: 'Atheism, Darwinism and virtually all the 'isms' emanating from the eighteenth to the twentieth century philosophies are built on the assumption, the incorrect assumption, that the universe is finite. The singularity has brought us face to face with the cause -or causer-beyond/behind/before the universe and all that it contains including life itself.'
+Darwinism the bedrock of atheism rests on the fact that life originated from inanimate matter. This has however been proved wrong by Pasteur when stated after him experiments: 'The claim that inanimate matter can originate life is buried in history for good'.
+Alexander Oparin the first evolutionist who took up the subject of the origin of life in the 20th century with the various theses he advanced in the 1930's. After his studies he concluded: 'Unfortunately, the origin of the cell remains a question which is actually the darkest part if the entire evolution theory.'
+All the evolutionist efforts put forth throughout the twentieth century to explain the origin of life ended with failure. The geochemist Jeffrey Bada from San Diego Scripps Institute accepts this fact in an article published in Earth magazine in 1998: 'Today as we leave the twentieth century, w still the biggest unsolved problem that we had when we entered the twentieth century: How did life originate on earth?'
+Evolutionary mechanisms advanced by Darwin has been proved to have no evolutionary power. Natural selection as accepted Darwin himself can do nothing until favourable variations chance to occur. Favourable variations were explained by Darwin in terms of acquired traits. However, the law of inheritance discovered by Mendel and verified by the science of genetics utterly demolished the legend that acquired traits were passed on to subsequent generations. Thus, natural selection fell out of favour as an evolutionary mechanism.
+Mutation is another concept used as evolutionary mechanism by modern Darwinists. Yet, this is absolutely opposed by scientific fact for mutations do not cause living beings to develop; on the contrary they always cause harm to them.
+ Fossil record which is the last hope for Darwinism also gives no sign of intermediate forms. This is summarized by the British paleontologist, Derek V. Ager : 'The point emerges that if examine the fossil record in detail, whether at the level of orders or of species, we find-over and over again-not gradual evolution, but the sudden explosion of one group at the expense of another'.
+Darwinism has been scientifically proved to be baseless. One can therefore only think of creation.
SURATUL IKHLAS- TAWHEED OF PURITY
In the name of Allah the Most Gracious the Most Merciful.
Say (O Mahammad) : ‘He is God, the One.
God-the Self Sufficient Master, whom all creatures need,
He begets not, nor was He begotten.
And there is none coequal or comparable to Him’.
